The Time is Now!

At this time of year, we are gifted in Brazil with the breathtaking bloom of yellow ipê trees. It’s impossible to walk past one without admiring its beauty — and, of course, resisting the urge to take a few photos! This natural spectacle, which usually happens only once a year, is fleeting: the flowers generally last just over a week.
A few days ago, I saw several pictures of ipês shared on social media by a dear friend. In one of them, she mentioned that she wanted to capture the bloom right then, because the next day the flowers might already be gone.
That simple remark made me reflect. Many opportunities in life appear exactly like that: fleeting. Yet, we often let the moment pass — postponing actions, decisions, or conversations. Sometimes it’s out of habit, sometimes because we don’t feel ready, because of uncertainty, embarrassment, or the fear of making mistakes.
The risk is that, by waiting too long, regret may set in, because:
- The window of opportunity may have already closed.
- External conditions may have changed.
- Essential elements may no longer exist.
- Or unexpected events may suddenly alter our plans (I reflected on this in another article: When Cold Water Hits Your Plans).
That’s why, in many situations, we need to trust our intuition and follow our heart. The outcome may not always be what we expect, but at least we’ll have the peace of knowing we took the initiative — without carrying the heavy thought of “what if I had acted when the time was right?”
This weekend, I invite you to reflect on how you have been embracing the fleeting opportunities life brings your way.
The time to act may be now.
